Cold Turkey – coming off anti-depressants

A photographic essay depicting the side-effects of ant-depressant withdrawal.

15 years or so ago I was prescribed a high dose anti-depressant (Dosulepin) as a muscle relaxant for a chronic spinal condition. A couple of years ago the drug was found to cause heart problems with extended use and is now being withdrawn by the NHS.

These photographs taken by Bridget and I two years ago represent the struggle I had at the time coming off the medication.

The recommended procedure was to gradually reduce the dose and withdraw completely after about six months or so but I was not informed of this at the time.

I withdrew completely in two weeks.
