UNSEEN is a collection of photographs by Bridget Gill – a 100-page hardback of work that, until now, had largely gone unpublished.
Why "Unseen"
We chose the title ‘Unseen’ because she seems to zone in on those small details of ordinary life that we often miss. For example, the photo of the people at the lakeside features a man with an electronic security tag on his ankle. And the girl in front of the nude statue is holding a ruler in her hand.
John Gill
She is a very ‘non-technical’ photographer, and in some ways I think that helps – she concentrates on what is in front of the camera rather than what is inside it. We often photograph alongside one another, collaborated on After the Coal Dust and have put on several exhibitions together, but the work in this book is very much her own.

Here’s a book I’d like to present by Bridget Gill, a photographer from Yorkshire, who picks up on the little details that many overlook. Whilst known to some as the wife of documentary photographer John Gill, she has her own way, her own style. They often work alongside one another and have even collaborated on a book and organised several exhibitions, sharing their passion and creativity, but John is quick to point out that her work is very much her own.
